Anise (Pimpinella anisum) is a medicinal and culinary plant traditionally used in Europe and the Middle East. The dried seeds contain high levels of essential oil, mainly trans-anethole, which is responsible for its antispasmodic and mucolytic effects.
Anise helps relieve gastrointestinal cramps, supports digestion, reduces bloating, and has mild expectorant activity – especially helpful in coughs, bronchitis, or reflux. It is also known to stimulate milk production during breastfeeding and is safe for children in proper dosage.
