The hydronium ion (chemical formula: H3O+) is a positively charged ion formed when a proton (H+) is transferred to a water molecule (H2O). - Intracellular fluid: pH of approximately 7.0 to 7.2, important for enzymatic reactions.
Buffer Systems and Regulation
To keep the pH value stable within the body, the organism uses so-called buffer systems that compensate for fluctuations in hydronium ion concentration:
