- Set the desired puncture depth.
- Disinfect the fingertip (use the side, not the center) and allow it to dry.
- Press the device firmly against the skin and release the trigger.
- Wipe away the first drop of blood; use the second drop for the test.
- Dispose of the used lancet safely in an approved sharps container.
Safety and Hygiene
Since blood lancets come into direct contact with blood, strict hygiene rules apply:
- Each lancet must only be used once.
- Never share lancets with other people -- bloodborne infections such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV can be transmitted through contaminated needles.
