Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic (painkiller) belonging to the class of opioid analgesics. Mechanism of Action
Tramadol works through two complementary mechanisms:

Dosage and Administration

- Typical adult dose: 50–100 mg every 4–6 hours, with a maximum of 400 mg per day

- Dose adjustments are necessary in elderly patients and those with renal or hepatic impairment.
Side Effects
Like all medications, tramadol can cause side effects. Common side effects include:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Dizziness and lightheadedness
- Fatigue and drowsiness

- Sweating
Less common but serious side effects may include:
- Seizures (especially at high doses or when combined with certain antidepressants)

Abrupt discontinuation may trigger withdrawal symptoms including anxiety, sweating, and insomnia. Tramadol should always be taken under medical supervision, at the lowest effective dose, and for the shortest duration necessary.
