The sonic toothbrush is a modern electric toothbrush that works with high-frequency vibrations to clean teeth and gums particularly thoroughly.
In contrast to the rotating movement of classic electric toothbrushes, the brush head of a sonic toothbrush moves sideways at up to 62,000 movements per minute. This dynamic cleaning action creates fine vibrations that mechanically loosen the plaque film and also reach hard-to-reach areas through liquid flow.
The high frequency creates a so-called fluid dynamic effect, in which toothpaste, water and saliva form a cleaning fluid rich in microbubbles. This also gets into narrow interdental spaces and the gum line without the need for strong pressure. Sonic toothbrushes are therefore particularly gentle on the gums and are also recommended for people with gum problems, sensitive teeth or fixed braces.
The sonic toothbrush hardly differs from a normal toothbrush in terms of use - however, the brush head should be gently guided over the teeth and not pressed. Many models have timers, pressure sensors and different cleaning programmes to optimise individual oral hygiene. Studies show that sonic toothbrushes can support superior plaque removal and gum health compared to manual toothbrushes - especially when used consistently.
Important features of the sonic toothbrush:
- Cleans with high-frequency vibrations (up to 62,000 movements/min.)
- Especially effective against plaque and gentle on the gums
- Also reaches interdental spaces thanks to fluid dynamics
- Suitable for sensitive gums, braces or implants
- Promotes profound and automated oral hygiene
