Gum recession - causes, treatment & natural support
Gum recession can be caused by inflammation, incorrect brushing or periodontitis. Probiotics and lactoferrin support regeneration and strengthen the oral immune system.

Gum recession, medically known as gingival recession, describes the receding of the gums, which makes the root of the tooth visible.
The receding gums can not only affect the aesthetic appearance of the teeth, but can also lead to sensitivity, increased susceptibility to tooth decay and, in the long term, tooth loosening. Gum recession is not a disease in its own right, but usually the result of other disorders in the oral cavity - often periodontitis, incorrect brushing technique, teeth grinding (bruxism), smoking or chronic inflammation.
A key problem with receding gums is the loss of the protective layer of tissue that normally shields the inside of the tooth. The exposed tooth necks often react painfully to stimuli such as cold, heat or sweets. The risk of root caries also increases. The treatment depends on the cause: In the case of bacterial gum recession, professional periodontal treatment and optimisation of oral hygiene are essential. In advanced cases, surgical measures such as gum grafts may be necessary
.Probiotics and Lactoferrin are increasingly being used to support regeneration and inhibit inflammation. Certain probiotic bacterial strains, such as Lactobacillus reuteri, can help to suppress germs that promote inflammation, balance the oral microbiome and strengthen the mucosal barrier. Lactoferrin, a natural, iron-binding protein, acts antibacterial, antiviral and immunomodulatory. Studies show that it not only reduces the inflammatory reaction in the oral mucosa, but also helps to stabilise the tissueand improving oral wound healing.
Important features of gum recession:
- Cause: Perodontitis, wrong brushing technique, grinding, smoking, inflammation
- Symptoms: exposed tooth necks, hypersensitivity, aesthetic impairment
- Therapy: tooth cleaning, brushing technique training, possibly surgical reconstruction
- . Surgical reconstruction
- Naturally supportive: Probiotics for microbiome regulation
- Lactoferrin to inhibit inflammation and strengthen tissue
