Angiogenesis inhibition (also referred to as anti-angiogenesis or antiangiogenic therapy) is the deliberate blocking of angiogenesis – the process by which new blood vessels form from pre-existing ones. Under normal conditions, angiogenesis plays a vital role in wound healing and tissue growth. However, in pathological states such as cancer and certain eye diseases, uncontrolled blood vessel growth can be harmful. The Role of Angiogenesis in Disease
Beyond a certain size, tumors require their own blood supply to receive oxygen and nutrients.
