What Is Inflammation Suppression?
Inflammation suppression encompasses all measures, mechanisms, and agents that reduce or completely inhibit inflammatory processes in the human body. Inflammation is a natural protective response of the immune system to injury, infection, or tissue damage. However, when this response becomes excessive, chronic, or directed against the body´s own tissues, it can lead to serious disease. This is where inflammation suppression becomes essential.
Causes of Excessive Inflammation
Pathological, or disease-causing, inflammatory responses can have various origins:

Mechanisms of Inflammation Suppression

Inhibition of Inflammatory Mediators
Inflammatory mediators such as cytokines (e.g., TNF-alpha, interleukin-1, interleukin-6) are signaling molecules that amplify inflammatory responses. Medications can specifically block these messengers and thus interrupt the inflammatory cascade.
Inhibition of the Arachidonic Acid Cascade
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, inhibit the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is responsible for the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins.
Immune Suppression via Corticosteroids
Corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone, dexamethasone) broadly suppress immune cell activity and reduce the production of numerous inflammatory mediators.

Biologics are biotechnologically engineered agents that specifically inhibit individual inflammatory molecules or immune cells. Examples include TNF-alpha inhibitors (e.g., adalimumab, etanercept) and interleukin inhibitors.

Excessive or long-term inflammation suppression can weaken the immune system and increase the risk of infections. Other potential side effects include:
- Increased susceptibility to infections (e.g., bacterial, viral, fungal)
- Bone metabolism disorders (osteoporosis with long-term corticosteroid use)
- Increased risk of certain cancers with prolonged immunosuppression
- Metabolic changes such as elevated blood sugar levels
- Impaired wound healing
For these reasons, every anti-inflammatory therapy is administered under medical supervision and tailored individually to each patient.
Natural Approaches to Reducing Inflammation
