Peppermint (Mentha × piperita) is a hybrid of watermint and spearmint and is considered one of the most versatile medicinal plants in Europe. Its leaves and essential oil contain menthol, menthone and flavonoids, known for their antispasmodic, pain-relieving, cooling and antimicrobial effects.
Peppermint is traditionally used for functional gastrointestinal complaints such as bloating, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or nausea.
