It is named after the Swedish chemist Theodor Svedberg, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1926 for his pioneering work on ultracentrifugation.

- Proteins and enzyme complexes: The S-value helps determine the size and composition of protein complexes.

Measurement: Ultracentrifugation
